Preview screening of 靈聼

Last week i was invited for this preview screening of this local production 靈聼 by Director Cheng Ding An, who happens to be also the Director of Kallang Roar. Rings a bell? Yeah, that sports film which created quite a hoo haa back then in 2008.

Okay before i go on, maybe let me show you the official poster of 靈聼.

The main lead is none other than the very talented Yes93.3FM DJ Dennis Chew and also starring Eunice Olsen.

The story is about a radio station DJ who has his shift swapped to a midnight slot and he ended telling horror stories, from which his deceased writer gf wrote. Those stories were true and before he knew it, he started seeing things which normal people don't. And he went means and ways to find out the truth. But little did he realize, he could be part of the stories very soon...

The film started from an incense shop.. and with that ah ma 朱秀凤, she's got this really horror aura around her. It made a very good opening. Sound effects was good however i thought the visual effects could be a lil' more stronger to go with the sound effects.

The flow of the plot was good. I could understand what the director was trying to show. However, the whole show seems to be in a rush. Every scene wasn't being very detailed as of why it happened or how it happened. I believe most of us while watching horror shows, many a times we would expect some sudden ghost popping out scenes. However for this film, those scenes which i was expecting a ghost to pop out but it didn't. I don't if its good or bad but more or less i guess this is just Director's Cheng style of filming, which makes him stand out.

In fact, sound & visual effects are just part of the show. To define if a show is good, more or less the actors skills are very important too! Dennis Chew has a very intense expression when it comes to those serious scenes. I mean it's really good to have actors like him in Singapore because he is really versatile. Looking at those times where he can really joke around with his smiley face, little did i expect that he can really pull off this role pretty well. And of cause with the makeup, it makes his acting skills even outstanding. And i guess its also because most of the filming scenes were in that incense shop. Fyi they really filmed the show in a real incense shop, it wasn't a set up.

I was thinking, if they can add a little bit more scenes at the incense shop and also what kind of ghost did Dennis see, what happened to him when he encounter them. I guess it will be much better. I mean it's just a personal preference and comment of mine.

In any ways, i'm still looking forward to more productions from Director Cheng. I kinda like his way of filming. However arts is always subjective, varies from one to one. .

Why don't you share your opinions with me after you've watch it?

The film will be released in theatres on 17 May 2012. :)

xoxo,
Queen
